Wake up world! Say hello to the panopticon. How does science & technology save your life? Well, science & technology is must for national security including fighting terrorism. There should be public awareness about role of S & T in national security. In this information age, we need technology in right hand to fight with dark net. What is called as effective national security? Its government's ability to collect, store, analyze, visualize and exploit hazardous data. But for right safeguards, we need to take care of conflicts of ethical & privacy concerns.
In Internet of Things (IoT) world, what will be future emergencies?
1. Protecting assets
2. Saving from hazardous materials
3. Sensitize data
4. Management of war: Human innovations Vs Nature
Surveillance in the internet age can lead to dangerous consequences. You must heard about Chinese facial recognition system for social security. In COVID 19 pandemic, some apps are developed which will monitor and trace covid 19 patients. It has been said that humanity needs to realize that when you give up privacy for security you end up neither but stupidity into new level. In this surveillance, problem is not about tracking, problem is who has data. Is data safe in their hand? Or will have misuse of it for another crime? The estimated fear is about one day when social privacy will not be a right.
I do remember what Thomas Jefferson had said , "When government fear the people, there is liberty, when the people fear the government, there is tyranny." The question that first arise in my mind is, is there any possibility that government with technology may lead indirect dictatorship? It is mere suspicion, how technology is getting handled within democratic, capitalist & communist nations ? There is need to trace which country is ahead in the realm of science & technology? Is it necessary to think how ethics is maintained while handling digital tools? There is challenge ahead, how laws at global level will limit use of technology for wrong & unnecessary purposes like we have treaties & laws for nuclear disarmament. Misuse of overarching surveillance through digital means may abuse human rights.
Still we can not deny the fact that at national borders & earth's space border, science & technology has pivotal role to keep borders safe from internal & external threats.
