Science & superheroes

Are scientists future superheroes? Perhaps, can be.  Have you watched 'fantastic four' movie? It is one of the science fiction movies. These movies are multifarious bluprints of our future. The science & technology has dexterity to control man's action in limited to unlimited range. There is steep rise in use of technology and why should not be ? But we should aware about the fact that today's use of science will decide our future trajectory.

In news, articles were published on how toilets are turned into smart toilets which can do analysis of human urine & poop to give health report, how stethoscope are getting replaced with digital stethoscope to maintain social distancing & avoid covid 19 contamination, how 3D printing is going to use for ventilator production to meet the demand of it in COVID19 pandemic etc. The war can be of anytype, whether it is with weapons, biological or technological, scientists have always played role as unsung heroes.  The medium of war can be anything, whether land, water, air or space, without R & D it is difficult to sustain & pave the way for victory. All scientists have unprecedented superpower of creativity of technology & technology of creativity. But, there are challenges with benefits.

Biotechnology is the emerging field which holds risks & challenges posed by the interaction of developments in it and advances in three emerging technologies
1. Additive Manufacturing (AM)
2. Artificial Intelligence
3. Robotics

Article 36 of the 1977 is additional protocol to 1949 Geneva Conventions. This reviews the legality of weapons in above three mentioned emerging fields of technology. Additive Manufacturing (AM) is nothing but a 3D printing is used for multipurpose manufacturing objects from plastics & metals that relay on the transfer of build information in a digital form. It has bigger application in missile manufacturing as well as wider aerospace technology. It is speculated that a complete nuclear weapon or gas centrifuge could be built using 3D printers. Can you imagine, where the scientists have taken this science?

See, technology is fundamental agent of social change, offering new possibilities to produce, preserve and spread knowledge. Though we hold new possibilities, we must aware its risk of misuse. We should have optimisation of its use. One shouldn't get ensare in misguiding use. In my view, scientists are like doctors and care takers of world, maintaining nature's law and the hope of beautiful tomorrow. We have profound  history of these scientists, superheroes with superpower to shape the world.

Migration crisis management

The global economy crisis & global health crisis due to war or disaster creates problems of migrants which is responsible for the debate who will take their responsibility. In 2015, UN adopted a new framework for sustainable development based on the principle that no one should be left behind. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director, Christine lagarde said that No country can manage the refugee issue on their own. In 2005, the World Health Organization adopted the International Health Regulations. These guidelines talks about controlling spread of diseases, while minimizing the adverse effects of travel & trade restrictions.            The root question which arise in the fear of 'refugee as weapon', & 'caring migrants like waste of national resources' is, is there need of stopping complete migration? Can we ? Who will ? In such war or crisis or disaster period, everybody becomes possessive being family member & citizen

We may poor but not threatening security

The growing global gap between rich & poor is the main concern simultaneously with the focus on poverty alleviation . The 1994 Human Development Report (HDR) highlighted two major components of human security, first, freedom from fear & freedom from want. When both these freedom is threatened by system, cultural or traditional defects, natural or man made disasters, own survival failure, incompetence then poverty knocks your door. There are some types of poverty like situational,  generational, absolute, relative, urban & rural. Thus, there is multi dimensional poverty.           When you think poverty may breed insecurity you must be thinking how it is a complex nexus of transnational threats like large migration, environmental degradation, crime, proliferation for small arms, infectious diseases etc. But why don't you ever think that one day, even yours rich habits, rich lifestyles and business you build on keeping poor as poor will let others in darkness of

Use of geographical configurations

Do we need integration of geographical knowledge to tackle stress ? The news that remaining geography paper of 10th ssc board exam get cancelled must be good news for students. Now, these students are free to take benefit of current corona lockdown. For most of the students, it was scoring subject. Geography is most important subject to study as a global citizen. We get to know how we all are dependent due to inequal distribution of natural resources, how our cultures, ideas & thoughts are shaped by region, how the relations  between  living things & non living are maintained, in short, evolution of physical environment  & society.             In this context, geographical studies have significant application in making health landscapes, disaster  management , security infrastructure, mental mapping, social environment etc. In current scenario of India, 'mapmyIndia maps' & 'move app' is helping  users to locate, view & reach testing labs
